The game is still under maintenance for iOS while the update is propagating. It seems some territories have had it propagate much faster, but we're not confident it's reached most players' regional stores yet. We'll lift maintenance for iOS soon, though.

It was in the state of the nation earlier this year. Basically, as I understand it, it's a wave of enemies probably similar to LoL and BNW, but you can only use each character once during the event, so choose your teams wisely and don't sac characters unless they are dupes.

Okay, I'm not trying to complain here... I'm honestly curious to hear the explanation: why is it a good idea for Trooper Badges to have their own store? What exactly went into the thought process of this decision? Was the thinking: "People are able to spend every currency they have in one convenient place (minus the Iron Coins, of course... but surely the Arena must always remain its own thing ;) )... this has to stop!" lol I mean, a tab to get to the store to spend Trooper Badges from the Trooper section, sure... but why would you ever take away the tab to spend badges in the main store?
If anyone could explain the thought process that lead to this change, I am keen to learn it. :cool: I want to believe!

Actually.. speculation is that the number at the top of the main HUD were getting too long.. so my moving them to the Trooper tab.. they eliminate that problem. The same way IC don't take up space at the top of the main HUD.

She is not supposed to do that, the one who grants immunity is the purple.

Gauntlet tutorial locked up my iPad though.... After the fire circle to view the rank tab.. it wouldn't change.
Rebooted game.. seems okay now. Just tutorial stuck at the end.

Yeah bud read it well, immunty to sleep and lower MAX HP. Means your team cannot be affected by those 2 effects, but still she doesn't grant the immunity buff.

Gauntlet Letter D doesn't reset characters. I'm missing half of my characters. Some previously used (in F and E) are available, some aren't.
Same for C. Some characters are available again.. some aren't.
For example, I used G Lilith and W Lilith and A CotD in E... G Lilith and A CotD never showed in D, but W Lilith DID... and now same thing for C.. used 7S Ed and M Lilith in D... they BOTH reappear in C.. but G Lilith and A CotD are still missing.... Used Beelzebub and CG in D.. they both reappear in C.
It would also be nice to have the tallies for SOW, FC, etc at the top of the screen.

Gauntlet showed up when I clicked arena the first time but crashed. After restart it doesn't show up.

F made the entire roaster available after E completed... D made SOME of the roster available again.. C made SOME of the roster available again. And there's ZERO logic as to why some characters are available again and some aren't.
And.. I don't have access to character I haven't used at all! Such as S Corrupt Rescuer.

I don't see the blue and green either but I purchased them this week already and don't see the locked icon over those souls. Same goes for the trooper soul fragments I already maxed out.

Hehe seems it was a leak perhaps.... I switched over to the Arena... then went back to take some screen shots and the Gauntlet is gone.
I will say this clearly to Devs.. charging 2500 FC coins for a character .... lying about it not being available anywhere else.. and then sneaking it in as fragment reward is unethical and backhanded. You've CLEARLY shown your cards to me.

I haven't been able to get into the Gauntlet that everyone is talking about, but it sounds like a good sign that it's drawing near. Alexander Eddie being a fragment option is nice to hear to me, since I didn't buy him, but I feel for those who did.

power up daily challenges doesn't count anymore. leveled a char and a talisman, but they didn't count. a friend of mine had the same issue. poor michelle has to sort everything out again....

The Gauntlet is a brand new feature we're working on for future release. Unfortunately, it's not quite ready for release. During our update this feature, along with some Gauntlet themed achievements were revealed to some of our players. We have since disabled the unfinished Gauntlet, and will be removing the Gauntlet achievements later today.
Please note that the rewards shown there, specifically Alexander Eddie, are placeholder data and will not be the rewards when the Gauntlet launches (i.e. Alexander Eddie will never be earnable from the Gauntlet, but other Gauntlet Exclusive characters will).
Thank you for your patience while we work to complete this feature, and don't worry, the Gauntlet will be available to play in the next couple months!

From what I saw, it is coming along nicely. As noted in my posts, I found a few issues, but battle sequences seemed to run completely as expected.

Apologies for that. It's the result of the mode not yet having adequate presentation. There are certain "restrictions" that are meant to be communicated at each Gauntlet Grade and they can vary greatly per Grade. Things like "Only Warriors and Magus can be used", "No Duplicates Allowed", "Opponent Teams Hidden", etc.
That's likely the source of the confusion. More details about that once the mode is closer to being released.

The Trooper Store is now available from the Troopers feature (accessible from the main HUB). This is noted under Store Changes in the patch notes.

We will fix this for a later update.

It basically boils down to us looking at the long term roadmap and realizing that, while many features will want their own stores, we just couldn't cram them all into the existing Store (and we had already failed to do that with the Arena Store). As we expand existing stores and add new stores and related currencies, we felt that setting the new standard of "feature specific store accessible from it's primary feature" sooner rather than later would be for the best if growing pains for moving things had to happen eventually.

There appears to be an issue where items that you've already purchased the max amount of times this week are disappearing from the Trooper Store instead of being listed with a lock. We are investigating why this discrepancy has now started occurring.

This is a known issue noted at the bottom of the patch notes.
Our plan when the update was released was to remove them at reset (since requirements/rewards are "locked in" from the first time you generate them after a daily reset), but we may actually have a fix for that in time for reset if our server hotfix is verified by QA. I'll post more here as I find out more about that.
Thanks for explaining, Kaz. It seemed really random overall.... I mean G CotD was always available (after leveling) even though I used it, but G Lilith disappeared after F and never reappeared.. but I get the "beta' thing and the fact that it was a leak, understood.

I thought the same.., BUGS will be there everytime in every development progress.., but i play a lot early access games on steam.., there are teams that aren't more than 2-3 persons.., sometimes only ONE person.., with more content every month.., and less bugs and A LOT of new features..,
or 2-3 months for a release but TESTED enough that they can release it to public.., i don't get it what happens here..,
I mean.., i 'still' love this game, and it got me often through hard times in fucking life.., but this game let me scream that often to my phone because everything sucks with this god damn bugs over bugs..,
And then i see.., NEW STUFF TO BUY!!!
I understand why so many long time players leave.., sometimes i think.., you should search for new developers.., i LOVE the artists work.., but.., it is really hard for me to don't get angry when i see with every update so much more bugs than fixes..,
and then.., the leaked gauntlet and i read in a couple of months.., i don't know i should laugh or what ever...
I know things need time.., but then PLEASE TEST IT BEFORE releasing...

It is really disappointing when you set a character as a counter to one of the most rampant debuffs and it doesn’t even work?!?! And we are to wait another month because you guys can’t test things right, even as positive as I am, I am really starting to lose faith in this game.

I just now tested her passive and it healed the team for both rounds. Is it just the immunity to reduce health that doesn't last long?
Correction: the healing works, but the immunity stops working.
I like the buff to Trooper Eddie. Although his cleansing move is tricky to get the timing. It's worth trying.k

She is suppose to make your whole team immune to the Lower max health debuff. It seems to work for the whole team for one turn and only her after that. This is just obvious points that there is virtually no testing done especially around a VERY important new character tuning. We were able to discover this after one fight how do they not catch this.

A hotfix just went live a bit ago, which did the following:
Challenges involving actions in the My Team screen will now track progress and be completable again
Achievements for the unreleased Gauntlet feature have been removed

To be clear, it was tested (I looked up the task in our tracking system to confirm), it just appears that it was confirmed to exist as described, and it was just missed that this effect (which shouldn't even have a duration other than "infinite") had an incorrectly set duration in one part of the effect.
Because it is a passive effect, the duration of it is not actually visible in-game, even though it, like basically every other gameplay effect, has a "Status Duration" field. In fact, every "effect" in combat (not just status effect, but thing like damage, healing, situational immunity, etc) all have over a dozen different fields, and any one of those set incorrectly can cause a bug of some kind which is a complete black box to you as players in the same way it's a black box to our testers. Because of the nature of how the data is constructed, it can't not have a duration set (the game would barf thinking the data was invalid), and because the data can also be in a place where the way something needs to function has nested effects (ie an effect pointing to another effect), it's sometimes necessary for a top-level effect to have a duration of 1 if it's sub-effects have the infinite duration. I couldn't even tell you the total amount of fields that need to be set exactly right to ensure that one Spiral Path passive functions currently, other than it being well over 100 different values (a top-level effect pointing to 3 sub-effects, with each sub-effect of those pointing to 2-3 other sub effects, with a minimum of 57 fields per effect/sub-effect).
Basically, that the bug we missed is one of hundreds of possible ways that one effect could have not functioned completely correctly. We cannot practically check every possible field's results (especially when it's not something our QA can even see directly) after accounting how many other tuning changes can go live in an update, and after accounting for all of the other feature and bug fix testing that needs to happen.
All that said, while we'll never be able to be perfect in catching stuff like this, we will review our testing process for tuning changes like this to better guard against it happening again.

Another bug:
Just noticed both SoW and SoT count down timers are gone. The ones that let you know when you will be awarded 1 sand. This is especially huge for arena strategy.
To clarify further - I have 8 SoW at the moment, I have no way to tell when I will be awarded a 9th. I have 90 mins to clear my list. Provided I don’t lose, will I get my 10 SoW before my list resets? Know way to know now. I’m inclined to reset my list to make sure I have time and sands to clear it.

Well you get SOW for daily achievements.
I start with 0.. do all the dailies and have 5 SOW I think. It never actually refills in 1 step from what I've seem. And it's on like a 49 minute clock.

Not to mention sacrificing 1* & 2* tunes has a good rate of dropping SoW, but anyway what's wrong with just using your ironite to get more SoW or SoT, your can't use it anywhere else?

I've passed that along to the team to investigate.
To clarify, Sands of Time replenish one unit every 5 minutes, and Sands of War replenish one unit every 60 minutes.

None of the single purchase talismans have a type listed. They usually indicate what type is in the store.

In fact, every "effect" in combat (not just status effect, but thing like damage, healing, situational immunity, etc) all have over a dozen different fields, and any one of those set incorrectly can cause a bug of some kind which is a complete black box to you as players in the same way it's a black box to our testers. Because of the nature of how the data is constructed, it can't not have a duration set (the game would barf thinking the data was invalid), and because the data can also be in a place where the way something needs to function has nested effects (ie an effect pointing to another effect), it's sometimes necessary for a top-level effect to have a duration of 1 if it's sub-effects have the infinite duration. I couldn't even tell you the total amount of fields that need to be set exactly right to ensure that one Spiral Path passive functions currently, other than it being well over 100 different values (a top-level effect pointing to 3 sub-effects, with each sub-effect of those pointing to 2-3 other sub effects, with a minimum of 57 fields per effect/sub-effect).
Basically, that the bug we missed is one of hundreds of possible ways that one effect could have not functioned completely correctly. We cannot practically check every possible field's results (especially when it's not something our QA can even see directly) after accounting how many other tuning changes can go live in an update, and after accounting for all of the other feature and bug fix testing that needs to happen.
All that said, while we'll never be able to be perfect in catching stuff like this, we will review our testing process for tuning changes like this to better guard against it happening again.

You have just almost precisely specified the number and positions of lines in the code that need to be correct for a skill to work...so it’s possible.
So basically the person creating the skill would just have to exactly follow a linear (and probably for most cases a stereotypical) “cascade” or “branching” of the code and ensure the value was added everywhere...or possibly just creating a script which would check that automatically. (fe: yellow skill=1 -> go check there and there). it’s not IMPOSSIBLE to get it right and it’s not a subject to some RNG....
and first of all- QA would have to understand how things work....

Didn't have the time to test most of the new additions, but I really like the "new" Trooper Eddie; I've just sharded him the other week and it seems that it was a good idea.
The new Sentinel Lilith passive is also an interesing addition, if it's gonna work as supposed, a team with her and other key allies, would be pretty hard to eliminate.
What I don't like, is the fact that the game now freezes when I turn auto-play in Arena matches; last case: only Visions remained => put the game on auto, as it was a guranteed 100% win => game freezes with Visions at 5% health => guaranteed lose => win streaks lost.

It disappeared for everyone (probably at reset time) due to a misconfiguration on the server end.
We'll be doing a server restart in a moment to fix this, once we confirm it's settings have been restored.
EDIT: Actually only affected iOS players. This has now been fixed.

Can I say that I much prefer seeing the lock totem for items which have been purchased with iron coins/frontier coins/trooper badges, etc as opposed to the item simply disappearing.
It would seem this last update removed all the locked totems and merely made items disappear if they aren't currently available.
Also.. (iOS) Arena > Defense > Manage Defense > run a test battle ... when the battle is done.. check out the top of the HUD.... I think THAT's why trooper badges were moved to a trooper store and why you can't see a Frontier coin balance anywhere other than in the Arena (which makes no sense).

After purchasing my quota of eternity frags in the arena store or trooper frags in the trooper store, I don't get chains locking me out of more fragments anymore, or the eternity/trooper frags option disappearing as it did for a short time after the last update.
I have tried to purchase (test) the trooper frags after collecting my 5x weekly quota it still won't allow further purchases so that part is right but there's a (I would call it) cosmetic bug there I suspect, or is this going to be the norm now?

Currently, the plan is you can use duplicate characters in most of the Gauntlet, but some higher Grades will have explicit restrictions on duplicates, meaning you won't be able to use them in those specific Grades.

There are two new issues we've been able to identify with the most recently update (most commonly seen with the Trooper Store, but we're investigating if this also includes other stores):
Items in certain stores will disappear from the list instead of being listed with locks and an indication that they're locked until the next reset. This is purely visual; the Trooper Store has not changed since the last few updates.
Items in certain stores will not lock up when you've purchased them the maximum amount of times for that period (such as the full 5 times you can buy Trooper Soul Fragments per week). This is also purely visual; a restart of the app will update the store (to what is right now the bugged presentation noted above where a locked item is no longer listed until it becomes available again).
The above two issues are compounded by the existing issue where some players will not see things reset after the weekly reset (which is typically corrected by force closing and relaunching the app).
The older existing issue is something we know is harder to solve, but the two new issues are being worked on, and we may already have a fix for the next major update.

The odds of souls is not something we want to tweak once the soul is live to not inadvertently "screw over" people who've already opened souls under their launch values, unless it's directly tied to a promotion (such as a 2x chance of 4★ and 5★ characters promotion, which we've done sparingly in the past).
That said, we do understand and respect the feedback, and we're looking at different ways for future events to make certain highlight characters more achievable (through adjusting the increased chance weighting, through increasing the availability of the souls, or through other means).

you can say that, because you've had luck with the "rng" (double beast, for example) but some others we have not seen a new eddie or character in months, just duplicates, one after another, so I do not think this really is very all right. heroic souls are a good start, but without somehow fixing this rng for all, the gap will increase, more than it already is.

While I have been lucky recently it has not been the case all the time it’s knowing when to take advantage of your resources. Again, a lot of the characters I have, have come during these 2x rate events. These last two events I have been insanely lucky with two beasts and clansman, but I say in my posts it’s not about % it’s about correcting the chance for dupes. People get enough 4 and 5 Star the problem is a) there are so many now and b) when you do get a 4 or 5 Star it’s one you already have. That’s what needs to be corrected not necessarily the %

The developers would have to have a program that would evaluate your list of characters prior to awarding you the soul and that would be nearly impossible since the chance for acquiring rare souls is also a small percentage. I mean they could have a program that checks your list prior to doing any process that could potentially award a soul. it just seems like a like of code. I just don't think its possible to do and so the only viable option is to increase the chance the of 4* and 5* characters from souls. The other solution in place now is the sacrifice pit. That still does not fix dupes but it gives you a place to possibly gain more rare souls from sacrificing. So maybe a better option would be to give higher chances for rare souls from sacrificing. Especially at the 3-5 tier levels.

A few things here: firstly I can understand that, If you have worked hard for a year or more or (just as bad) purchased a soul or chance at a soul you would be mighty upset if all of a sudden after having finally achieved you're goal soul, it was more easily available.
However that said there are a rare few still playing that have claimed every character and even if they had, at the rate NF introduce new characters they would be back in the same position as everyone else.
It could also be said that the 'rare few with every character' dealt with the same anguish (back in their day) that the vast majority do now.
So whilst a few might get their panties in a bunch for a couple of days, they and everyone else ("everyone else" = currently with their panties in a bunch) stand to benefit.
Sparton please don't misunderstand me, I say this as I want to better understand LOTB developers perspective, inspire healthy debate and get positive feedback or feedback anyway...
As a developer you must have seen a myriad of (if you will) 'customer complaints' through support or these forums spending their hard earned money or time on something they enjoy expecting (this is what goes through my head) that "oh I've saved so many rare, mythical, legendary, rare assassin/gunner etc souls it's just gotta drop something new?"
And coming up with bubkiss!
So how is increasing 5* chances on everyday play "screwing over" achievers of those souls? I won't be upset if the last few 5* star characters, that took me over a year to achieve become more easily available.
I'm not the greatest player by a long shot, but I play everyday, usually giving up 2-3 hours a day and over a year a small fortune in $$$.
If NF will not change those 5* percentages then at least setup an individual user counter/log (unseen but working in the back ground) that recognises 2 x things, 1.hours on LOTB and money spent. Once a predetermined value has surpassed the counter/log resets and the user receives some award that will guarantee them any character of their choice and I mean any!
Kind of like opening a LOTB shopping mall with every 4* and 5* character ever created on display for potential purchase.
Before you say that's what frontier coins are for, frontier coins work for several characters only and most are unattainable in a small amount of time (1-2 weeks) to the average user.

I think would be great if they could implement a choose your character soul. What they could do is every time you drop a rare soul or higher you get so many fragments for a chose a character soul. Then they could have a character store that has different and/or rotating characters you can sell these fragments for. This Gemini event showed you could use fragments in the store so that shouldn't be an issue. If someone drops a 1000 rare souls he should be able to pick one toon he wants.
While a great idea.. the quest to get that elusive character is probably what keeps many playing. I know when there's something new I play more.

I might of gone a little far to say 1-2 week counter. For the hypothetical 'award of the character of you're choice' 1 - 2 months is more realistic.
As it stands it takes me 6 x weeks to aquire enough shards for an eternity soul and it takes everyone 4 x weeks to aquire enough shards for a trooper soul.
So it will take 3 months to earn 500 frontier coins not including full vortexes...
Therefore 2000 frontier coins per year + enough full vortexes + each 500 Lilith shard collection, the average user should be able to collect enough coins to pick up say Alexander Eddie in 10 months to a year if they don't spend those coins on more attainable but limited characters...

What would need to be put in place is a "work towards" currency that would rotate every month say 3-4 characters purchasable by a generic fragment that could be gained from sacrifices, event completions or IC. Make the fragments cost accordingly :-
You will need, say 500 (can be any attainable number really) fragments to buy X character from the list. If you really want to show the value of the community let them vote on it. Of course not everyone who plays is on these forums but at least the input from the players who feel enough enjoyment from this game to give input would be appreciated.
Buy fragments for IC - limited or unlimited
Buy fragments for Frontier coins - again limited or unlimited
Play in the Arena (wins = 3 frag/loss = 1 frag)
Award a random number of fragments from sacrificing (all tiers must be included though)
Award a tiered number of fragments from Cosmos wins
Award a tiered number of fragments from BNW wins
Change the list of acquirable characters every month.
This is still a "work toward" goal and it includes all levels of players.

Just can give you an example I experienced in the past: I acquired a rare soul on Mystic Eddie event last year and cashed it in after event was over and got him.

Mystic was added to the character pool by the event and since then you could get him with every rare soul. Maybe sparton will jump in for this one and clarify for all times :)

Character is not determined until you drop it in the book of souls. I got clansman Eddie from dropping a stack of rare warrior souls that I've had sitting since before he was introduced.
I'm aware of people having a crash during opening souls and being the same result when they try again. No doubt that is to keep people from trying to exploit it. The simple answer is the random number seed is stored with your account, so you'll get the same result because it's the same seed value. If you understand that, I don't need to explain it and if you don't it probably wouldn't help. In some sense, the answer is both. But, you really can get a new character from an old soul.

This is what has made Hero Souls different.. THEY seem to determine the character when you drop them into the BOS. Unless of course, things have changed for every soul type now. (which would be a good move I think)

Btw - lots of good suggestions in this thread. RNG is often quite frustrating. It would be cool if there was a way to earn every key toon in the game. Either by collecting frags (we are getting a bit of that now and it’s great), in the stores with IC, or FC.

I don't know what to believe anymore...
I don't think anyone is certain either way. But what Askora posted makes sense.. the server saves a randomizer.. and that alters the BOS conversion so it's a bit of both.
I'd swear the devs posted the character is determined when you get the soul, not the BOS.... hence the necessity to get new souls when new characters are released. but I wouldn't, like, bet my house on that. Seems everyone remembers something differently and no one ever has a viable link to a definitive statement either way.

This would explain Askora getting Clansman from old “appropriate” souls. I am still not convinced the soul is determined on BoS but I am more inclinded to believe the “seed” theory. Perhaps the seed tier for 5* is 695 and Askora just happened to have a 700 seed soul in his stack so he was awarded the Clansman. Instead of a different 5*. Those who were awarded more than one Clansman were done so because it is stated that Clansman have a higher chance to drop so any seed soul that is 695 or higher will result in a Clansman.
I only used 10 freedoms which I recieved from a vortex fill and the 3rd soul was Clansman.
Would definitely clear some confusion with some dev input.

I could have sworn Sparton and Kaz have confirmed the opposite, souls are determined when the soul hits the book. The issue is the whole if in the book and crashes or force closes they cache the data so to prevent abuse.

It's entirely possible. I could be remembering wrong. One this is for certain, regardless of when the toon is determined, and that's: RNG sucks.
See.. everyone remembers something differently and no one has a definitive link :)
