Character/talisman evolution

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, I'm having difficulty with talisman evolution from 3*to 4* and Eddie evolution from 3* to 4*. For the talisman, I applied the required shards and it showed as evolved. The next time I logged in to the game it was back to 3* and the shards were back in my inventory. For one of my Eddies, I applied the required shards as with the talisman, but this time it didn't evolve and my shards were gone. Any recourse? Any thoughts? I contacted support and a ticket was assigned but nothing else has happened.
