View Full Version : Your Ranking of the Four and Five Star Eddies

Hey guys,
So I got this idea while I was pondering how many of the four-star Eddies that have come out recently are more powerful than some older five-stars. I thought it might be fun to try and regroup based on how powerful I feel they are. Feel free to chime in with your own!

Four Stars

Carriage Rider: Although he got a recent buff, I'd say the four-star classification is still accurate. Useful abilities, decent healer but pretty fragile. I have one with max skills and talismans and he's still not really pulling his weight in the Gauntlet lately.

Coalgiver: He's boring and not all that good. Seems outclassed even by some three-stars like Speed of Light or Storm.

Cyborg: A strong character who hasn't kept pace with the newer ones. Stuff like stealing power and lowering accuracy seems a little wimpy for a five-star. The combination of true damage and attacks that scale with Special stat is a little unwieldy. Still pretty good damage.

Eternity: He's good but I feel like he should be better. His effects on enemies don't seem to land very often. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

Fear of the Dark: A solid four-star Eddie. HP seems a little on the low side for a sentinel. The basic attack that blinds is effective and the move that hits everyone with Perfect Corruption is clutch.

Grim Reaper: I think this one really needs to be maxed before he lives up to his potential. Otherwise, he tends to disappoint. His healing move is kind of crap and being able to resurrect everyone with a Fury is hardly exclusive at this point.

Killers: One of the few recent four-stars who doesn't feel like a five-star. Not having any AOE skills is a hindrance but he's still solid and his fury is insane. Very effective with Mark talismans.

Mystic: I may just not be using him well. Very high HP for his class. His skills seem designed to interact with each other but you really need several turns to make that work. The Ascension move is really good and his fury makes him awesome when teamed with the Alchemist but otherwise I'm not terribly impressed by his damage.

Pharaoh: How the mighty have fallen. Early on in the game's life, this guy was a beast. However, the ability to resurrect allies and give invincibility is no longer as rare as it was and there are newer characters who do it better. Still a dependable tank.

Shaman: I've had this guy for a while and I still don't really get him. He's got a good fury, the lifesteal/spell vamp move is useful but I just haven't been able to make him all that tough. With the mix of physical and magical attacks he seems like a good candidate for Assassin talismans but his red/green/blue requirements make that tough.

Tailgunner: I got him pretty early on and I used to make mincemeat out of enemies with him. He's no longer as powerful compared to newer Eddies. Doesn't have many options for dealing with troublesome effects on himself or enemies. Still love his fury though, it kicks major ass.

Visions: Almost five-star quality. Great at stealing effects (I enjoy seeing him humiliate the Magus Lord of Light by stealing Ghost) and his fury is very useful as long as you have someone to cleanse him. Damage is on the low side but a good defensive character who benefits from having allies who hit harder.

Five Stars

Aces High: Another one who hasn't totally kept pace with new characters but does high enough damage that I would still consider him five-star quality. Nice combination of single-target attacks and AOE attacks. Strike talismans work great with him.

Benjamin Breeg: Always blown away by how good this one is. Garden of Dismay X used to be really tough for me but now I can put it on Auto and watch him shred the enemies to ribbons. Lots of extra turns and seems to hit his fury constantly. One of the best Eddies imo.

Crusader: I don't have him yet but he's one of my troopers. I would normally consider his attacks to be upper tier four star but his fury alone bumps him up imo. It's so much better than the invincibility given by Pharaoh Eddie and is a serious hassle to deal with. Even a character with valor talismans needs to hit three times before you can get past it.

Beast: Beast is right. Lots of good silver effects to dish out and the Ninth Circle move is amazing. The way he uses Bloodlust is also pretty nuts. A little squishy sometimes but having allies who heal helps with that.

Clansman: The buff master. With all of his extra turns, he makes your team into powerhouses if there's enough energy. I like to save up energy during Brave New World/Lord of Light runs and then see how long I can chain my turn before the boss gets a chance to hit back.

Doomsday: Uh yeah. Four star my ass. This guy is absolutely sick. Even with no skill shards and just your basic three star talismans he's doing great damage. I gave him a set of Chance talismans and now he's a monster.

Edward the Great: A borderline case. He was designed to be effective against sentinel characters but it doesn't always work as well as advertised. Still has a lot of useful abilities, extending effects on allies and assigning random buffs is really good. The Conquest move pwns individual warrior enemies. There was one time where I somehow one-shotted the dragon in Garden of Fear X with like 130k damage, something I didn't think was possible.

Hallowed Eddie: I would not have gotten through Night City on Madness without Hallowed Eddie. Using his power moves and Fury, you can give yourself lots of turns and really debilitate the enemies. I gave him some energy talismans which helped him chain attacks even more. Not necessarily high damage but awesome at nerfing people.

Final Frontier: I don't have this guy yet but just from using a trooper it's clear he's a five star. I have never seen a Sentinel Eddie do this kind of damage.

Peace of Mind: He's crazy useful. Being able to give everyone Trap wreaks havoc on tough status-canceling enemies like Horus or Clairvoyant. His fury is the great equalizer.

Phantom: He's awesome. One of the best when it comes to dealing with enemies loaded with effects - I don't know if I could have beaten Gates of Dawn on madness without him. Great fury, the sleep effects are super useful. If he had a proper healing move he might be OP.

Samurai: I've been chasing this guy forever and I still don't have one of my own. I have had a trooper for a long time and I know how good he is. The Advantage ability plus extra turns means he can carve up lots of enemies fast. His fury hits super hard and if anyone survives it, they now have to deal with him having armor penetration. I hope one day the RNG gods take pity on me and let me have one.

Seventh Son: Man, does he hit hard. All of his basic attacks are really tough and being able to give guaranteed Echo or Permadeath is a lifesaver in harder fights. The fury rarely leaves any survivors.

Trooper: Love this guy. Great damage and very useful abilities. Throw some echo talismans on him and he's a terror. Can't count how many times I've used Onslaught to get Critical Strike and followed up with a devastating Spur. Also good at keeping allies alive with a good healing move, a basic attack that cleanses and being able to give everyone Endure.

Vampire Hunter: He used to be better, but he's still good. Does nice damage, good healing, the fury combination of resurrection and critical strike is very potent. HP is on the low side.

Viking: It takes a while to figure out how best to use this one but he's really very good. He was also the first five-star Eddie I got from a soul so he's been an invaluable part of my team ever since. It's all about the combination of MR Charge and Call to Arms. His damage goes way up and sometimes you can even do it all in one turn. Combine that with the freezing and Blizzard Shield and he's brutal. Also my tankiest Eddie - with his high HP and being able to heal himself every turn with Loot, he's beaten entire arena teams by himself. When the next Gauntlet season inevitably focuses on Sentinel characters, I know I can count on him for AA and AAA.

Unsure:

Alexander: I don't know, dude. I'm probably never going to have this guy. I've played him via troopers and while he does seem to be good with the right talismans the super high requirements to get him will always make him seem disappointing.

Bass: He's brand new and I don't have him. Based on my trooper experience, he seems a little underpowered for a five star but the consistent effect stealing is useful. Would need more time to decide.

Iron: Don't have him, but he's one of my troopers. A great fury that turns enemies to mush but I haven't yet gotten a feel for his other attacks.

Navigator: Don't have this guy either and haven't been able to find a trooper other than the Level 85 one everyone gets. Seems okay.

Rainmaker: Another one I've never gotten but have used through troopers. Hits hard but doesn't seem very versatile. The addition of Shroud to his fury is nice. I'm not sure where I'd place him.

I think that's everyone. What do you guys think?

Blur is amazing on visions due to grievous burns and blind, while putting a quake talisman on a high level pharaoh is amazing for clutch team stuns.

I dont consider myself that good at the game, and comp wise i just roll with what i have since theres not much of choice for me, so i might be wrong.

But damn it Rainmaker is really good, i almost got mine fully sharded (the boi needs like 36 damn), and damn, stab into execute auto kills anything. He can renove golden effects and buffs insanely well, he inflicts permadeath, and has a decent chance at getting extra turns, also if you get an extra turn on darkness, thats an ascension turn, aka you pretty much are guranteed a one shot, so yea. I dont even have maxed talismans for him, i still got 3 to get to 5 stars and 2 to max out, so yea.

Though, he is squishy. But thats not really a problem if you use the fury, cus shroud is really good. Shroud pretty much is the only reason night city was doable for me.

But yea. Rainmaker is cool... Hes also the edgiest looking eddie so yea

Oh yea also, nice post fam, that was pretty insightful, since I pretty much didnt know much about most Eddies

I LOVE Phantom Eddie. Stained Glass is an amazingly useful attack

Also, Eternity Eddie is good for destroying Titan shields in BNW and for 1 turn killing the Killer Beast

Navigator is a great Eddie, but his lack of healing require you to carry a healer. He hits do hard. I have angels and explosive on mind and he's fully sharded. If you ever get him, you will celebrate the day. He's like Doomsday and a but squishy. Sadly, the 3* RthH Eddie is as strong as any of the true 4 & 5* Eddie's it there. He should really be a 5* naturally. As for Coalgiver, I have find him to be quite useful. I only got him this Christmas and he's still be, but I find I can clear a lot of field with him and a good team for support. Carriage Rider is my saddest Eddie. Fully sharded and maxed set of Oracle talismam, he's still very squishy. He's still one of my favorites.

He is VERY good for Night City. Pair him with the Assassin Demon Spawn (natural 3 star), and an effective passive disabler (The Prisoner is best), and it makes Night City very easy.

The Demon Spawn inflicts Crave on all enemies, which damages them when they try to heal, and one of Iron Eddie's group attacks stuns if they are inflicted with Crave. It's not the best against the bosses, but it is still really useful

Really nice list, you put a lot of work in it! Was fun to read your comments and I mostly agree.
The "problem" is, that there is no real way to "rank" the Eddies, also we would need separate lists for auto-farming, PvP attack, PvP defense, Gauntlet etc. So it was a good idea to have only 2 ranks :)

The list for farming would be very short: Navigator. That's all. He is the only Ed that is reliable in doing AoE attacks including the fury. I tested if FFE could replace him - no he doesn't. Why? Because the AI was set really stupid for him. He likes to use the only single enemy basic attack he has too often and he also likes to burn 6 power for his steal beneficials move, even if the enemy has zero beneficials...facepalm! At least this move also does damage and on auto-play the extra turn seems to trigger more often than on manual. For NotB Alex is highly recommended but not the only way to go anymore.

The AI is a real problem in my opinion. Setting up a good PvP defense (and also a farming team) is almost impossible because of that - especially in the current meta. Your team should be set up in a way that it is irrelevant who attacks whom, which attack is chosen, the order of attacks and which opponent is selected first. PvP would be much more exciting if the AI would be clever. But maybe this is not wanted at all - people doing >1000 fights in the Arena per week are very welcome because of the huge ironite amount needed to do so. Nobody would do that against a clever AI when each fight is a real challenge and win% would not be ~99% like now but rather 50:50, I guess - but that's a different topic.

Some of the Eddies profit a lot from specific Talis: Visions+Angle, Hallowed+Valor, Alex+Echo to name a few.

Others profit from specific allies: Eternity+Assassin Spawn, Alex+Sekhmet, Hallowed+Debuffers... for example.

Of course there are also more mixed synergies, like Clasman+Allies that wear energy Talis.

But all in all the lists are very dynamic, as they are changed with every new Eddie (or Allies, or Talismans) released, every tuning/nerfing and by this every change in the PvP-meta. Only Navigator stays on top for farming everything apart from NotB.

To me the meta-changes have been too hard lately. This results in very redundant teams where mostly only 1 character is different in all builds (if at all). I think this is stupid, as you have shown with your list that there are so many great Eddies that are suited for different builds and tactics - but this is all pointless if the meta makes one build so extremely outstanding. I remember times where the 3 slots for PvP attack teams was too little. Lately it is not needed anymore because one team can win against all other teams - which almost completely removes the strategic component from PvP. This is mainly transferred to the Gauntlet - with unfair conditions as the enemies can wear all type of Talismans - but again this is a different story.

Also I think that sometimes the meta is changed too quickly. I remember that I got the Clansman very early - one of the very few event characters I got from event souls. I really like him a lot for his skill set, his synergy with energy stealers and his artwork. But only ~1-2 weeks later another very powerful Eddie was released (I think it was Doomsday, but not sure) and immediately the Clansman was more or less useless. I mean they put a lot of work and details in the skills and graphics and only a few days later the next Eddie and a bunch of other characters are released. Why the hurry? A better balancing would be more appreciated than replacing the "newest" and "greatest" character so quickly.

To conclude, the list is awesome and I want to thank you for the reminder which great Eddies we have! But in the end you only need Navigator (and Alex) for farming and the one that fits best for the current PvP-meta. All other Eddies are only needed for Gauntlet (and some events with specific buffs/debuffs). Having some ideas of how to use the Eddies and how to benefit the most from Talis & allies combinations is great but only needed for Gauntlet where you have to prepare for the unexpected Talis on the opponent, not only their skills.

I am a bit sad about the fact that strategy is not as imporant as it used to be long ago. But this is what it is right now, maybe this will change, maybe not. Have fun everybody!

BTW Coalgiver Eddie is also great! ..... to indicate that you use a fun defense in PvP ;)

PvP would be much more exciting if the AI would be clever.

Since I've joined this game I found the pvp concept really weird. pvp = player vs player. The arena isn't pvp.

It's Player Strategy vs Player Strategy, then the AI do the rest

Gauntlet is the only place I tend to vary my Eddies as you kind of need to do it! Syill, that is fine with me as it does give the roster a go and you can get some really decent teams - though I tend not to work in teams too much but there are some really fin Eddies to use and gauntlet is really the only place I use my roster - sometimes LOL as well. But pretty much my PVP team is my core team for most stuff other than BNW and LOL where i go to more focused teams.

Great list! There are only a few things I would change though. Alexander and Rainmaker belong on the 5 star. I have both, and both have amazing features. Alexander Eddie I've sometimes soloed arena teams with him. And when I say solo, I mean that the other team went first and somehow took down my entire team, with alexander being the only one who survived. And him solo, took the entire team down. If and when you use him, he works wonders with echo talisman. And rainmaker? Amazing with bosses, and he truly lives up to his name as a 5 star single target assassin. Use stab+any other attack and that character is more than likely dead. Every eddie has it's uses. Killers eddie i feel depending on what you do, also belongs to 5 star because of his specific uses. Again, much like Alexander eddie, i recommend the echo talismans on him. The extra turns wth his dispose attack eliminates any character that may be a problem. Iron eddie also. Back then he use to be a monster. Now, even with the new characters coming out with new metas, he's still very good. Blocks beneficial effects so a magnus lilith can't receive buffs, decent damage overall, and his skill abilities overall are very solid. He is arguable in the 4 star class, but again, that's arguable. There's also that little trick with assassin demon spawn that's pretty useful in most cases, such as soloing a gauntlet battle with just those two characters. Everything that has a special feature or can do something in a unique and useful way should stay true to their star rank, with a few exceptions such as doomsday and benjamin breeg. This is all opinion based though, I'm not stating it as a fact, so feel free to feel otherwise :)

So is navigator better than beast Eddie for auto-farming?

I have been using fully sharded beast Eddie so far and didn’t thing navigator hits as hard as beast. But again, my navigator is not fully sharded.

So can someone who have them both fully sharded confirm who is better for auto-farming please.

They are both awesome auto-farmers. I trust the AI with Navigator a little more, but Beast Ed's fury is better. I was just about to switch my 'trooper' Ed back to Navigator actually.

I like Navigator better. He's a lot more stable. I have him fully sharded and he's running angel and explosive talismans, both maxed. His fury is not as strong, but I feel he hits harder on the general runs. both his power and basic moves are like getting hit by a Mack truck lol.

Hallowed Eddie not high damage!? His fury can go off nearly every turn and give ascension each time. Even against the hardest teams, he consistently hits among the hardest of any of my eddies. But yeah, the fury running regularly doing crazy damage, giving echo and PI to the team, plus ascension to seriously increase damage of the whole team - He's my favourite, even after the nerf.

Runner up is Benjamin Breeg. Revive+PI+PH for his fury is just so good.

Most mobs are pretty weak. Therefore, a good autofarmer is a fast multihitter, not a buffer/reviver.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Reading your impressions about the Eddies is very interesting.

Regarding autofarming, Benjamin Breeg tends to be my go to for that. The AI seems fairly smart with him. Beast Eddie is good too although every so often the AI is stupid and gets him killed.

You've also got me stoked on Rainmaker Eddie, I really hope I get him someday.
