I just pulled a magus allied soldier from a rare pack, he's a 3*. I'm going to level him up because I've read that he's a great ally to have in battle. What talisman combos and stats should i focus on giving him?

ohai "brother" mariner :D
He's the only one who let me finish the game till now, so yeah i'd suggest you to upgrade him all the way.
Of course the "magic" talismans are the best for him, in particular the paladin ones imho, cause they increase the magic by 20% of MR (and the character has a high one)

Here is my magus allied soldier. He is a beast and still young. Also has maxed skill stat. He does about 3900 damage to targets with a red ring... Up to about 7900 to green ring targets... Plus the reflect shield is ridiculously helpful.
Soldier Eddie, this guy, and warrior child of the damned is unstoppable!

I just did some fine tunning of my Magus and I found that for better magic damage, the best talisman is Holy and not Paladin (Arcane). This are numbers , just go with me :)
Lvl 50 talismans:
Palladin Arcane
HP 1142
MAtk 453
MRes 114
Special: addss 20% more MAtk that comes from basic Magic Resistance (only white numbers on your Stats)

Holy Arcane
HP 1142
MAtk 453
MRes 114
Special: adds 15% more MAtk that comes from basic Magic Attack (only white numbers of your Stats)

Magus Allied Soldier
Basic Magic attack: 451
Basic Magic resist: 327

Palladin talisman calculates like this:
20% from basic magic resist (327) is 65.4 ...game rounds it down to 65. So for 1 Palladin talisman, we get extra 65 magic attack. We need 2 of them to get benefit, means we get 130 more damage.

Holy talisman calculates like this:
15% from basic magic attack (451) 67.65 ...game rounds it down to 67. So for 1 Holy talisman, we get extra 67 magic attack. We need 2 of them to get benefit, means we 134 more damage.

I've put all this into excel table for tests and yes, it confirms my numbers :)
