Sweeping the Toxicity Away, Counter the Meta

Last Week's Arena Winners were Wipp, Discordian and myself, TheFirstGC. Yes this time we swept Arena again, no surprise there. This time it was different, I lead the charge. I had felt that this time around was my chance to tackle the mountainous climb that is Eternal I. Along the way I had encountered The Good, The Bad and The Most Righteously Heinous. My god, was this an everliving shitshow of a Meta.

The Good:
As I was climbing the long way to the top (If I wanted to Rock & Roll), I had come across many teams that were diversified, I loved seeing the teams that others had put together to ward off attackers. Ranging from Gold Idols to Witch Doctors, it was amusing and fun to see what teams people had churned out. Had a blast steamrolling those teams, some with more resistance than others.

The Bad:
I had climbed and climbed to the top and it was made clear to me what the challenges ahead were. At that time I didn't have a Maxed Moonchild to stand up to others as well as not a full set of Lab talismans. (I'm a bit paced at some things, I focus on what suits me at that moment). I had climbed to the top, reached Eternal I when the refresh was 3 days away or so. Then in my Discord, some of the members alerted me to the Italian Facebook group for this game. They had translated what they said to me and I was amused what they had come up with for witty responses. Since I do not speak Italian nor am I a part of that FB group, I had someone go in and explain tot hem what was going on at the top. The whole reason why that came up to me is because they were mad about me attacking them over and over and over, which if any others that had reached Eternal rank, cannot help.

The Most Righteously Heinous:

This part, hooo baby is this a shitshow of a Meta. From BHE with Sacred and Serenity talismans to The Killer overriding things, I got thoroughly pissed. This Meta is and will be the most Heinous of all time in my book. What it all boiled down to was: if you didn't have The Killer on your Defense, your team was going to lose 75% of the time. Moonchild with Labs and a Vamp cosmic or Echo wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, but still frustrating. The most frustrating part of that was having a Past cosmic on him, which was only available through IAP. Now, let's get to the most plaguing thing in Arena now, The Beast. The Beast by all standards when fully awakened is amazing, with a nice compliment of whatever talismans you put on him. The most synergistic talisman works is Lantern with Warlords for him. My god, that is a fun combo and it's a good one. The only issue is here is when he hits, he heals, which is what his basic description is supposed to do. When he is put on a defense team and they go first, expect for you to be forced into a loss. Him getting so many extra turns makes it impossible for you to win, even if Moonchild is on your team. All top Arena players can agree to this.


Well, that's my post for this, although I don't post much on the fourms. I advise others to whom must be toxic about this game from slander to outright pursuit of another person: Save it. Save it for the battlefield when Clan Wars come. Use your toxicity to a better goal, prove that you can be higher than a moral low that hurts others. This is a game, not some powerhouse route to global domination.

While it's true that most times people downplaying achievements are just jealous, in this case it is worth noting that winning arena doesn't take nearly as much skill as does time. Once you have a team that can counter the meta you can just grind away to your heart's content. Especially now that Sands of War is a non-issue with the dungeons handing them out like candy.

It's still an achievement though, and having the three of them coordinate and work together is pretty neat. Putting together meta-countering teams takes time and effort, and there is always a lot of work behind the scenes in developing those teams.

*shrug* I'll congratulate anyone who makes it to the top each week though, regardless if they're someone I'd call a friend. A win is a win.

Absolutely agree.. if you have the character roster, then it's merely a matter of time.

Some clan boosting each other, not attacking each other, not fighting for #1 merely means thy could relax a bit more than usual and it was EASIER than normal.



Putting together meta-countering teams takes time and effort, and there is always a lot of work behind the scenes in developing those teams.

Actually there isn't. Once you get to the top 50 or so... it is all completely the amount of time you put in.

It always depends how you read a post. Especially for non-native speakers like me it is not always easy to fully understand and differentiate between serious language, sarcasm or just a funny tone - which is always hard in written language.
We have seen similar posts in the past were top arena veteran players wrote a wrap up of the current meta, bugs and strategies. I always liked to read those. This time, I also had the feeling of some sort of bad attitude in the opening post. But in the end I really don't care much. It is just a game and many of us tend to take it too serious. I respect the time and effort people put into this repetitive competition (that might better be spent elsewhere) to win arena, but it's not something that requires me to bow before the kings.
But when the clan feature will offer more options, clan wars etc., things might turn out different when we have these overambitious clans and folks. We already had the discussion about "helping" together to push certain members of a clan. But I also leave that to the people that take this game too serious in-game, on twitter and all the other crap.

Edit: And what about the trickers? It was funny in the beginning, but do you plan to still switch to those as your champion? It would be impressive if you'd include the trickster into your arena team!

It doesn’t come across insightful or helpful or necessary, just look at me and my circle jerk of a clan attention seeking. Just the mention of toxicity implies you already knew this, and it was preemptive to deflect against any negative comments. Thanks but no thanks. I am neutral on this stuff - as far as I am concerned hats off to anyone, regardless of which clan, if you achieve top 3 - it is such a massive time commitment that it deserves some plaudits just for that alone. It is less of a big thing in terms of skills and has been for ages now as the meta is so time consuming that has to be the main pain to get through. Hell even top 100 is too much for me time wise these days - I still enjoy arena for sure but once I get close to the top few hundred it is so much the same there is little fun though from time to time I take a dive into tougher teams up the top to see what they have in their defences.

I am totally not a leader or a great player that is for sure. I leave it to others to spend hours thinking up cool teams and taking on the top spots.

But let us all try and not be dicks - we all love Maiden, and Brucie wants us all to be 'blood brothers' that get on as part of the Maiden family...so I am all for leaving toxicity behind. Enjoy the competition for sure but do we need to be saying some of the stuff that has been said? Not really, if we were face to-face we would not be saying shit like this or any other stuff that has been said I am sure. We would support each other and not name call and be ass hats. We would pick up each other from the concert room floor and buy a pint of Trooper and say cheers to each other......maybe too rose tinted but you get my drift I am sure!

I´m sorry to say, but despite some replies being too personal and attacking I need to really say, that it´s not the first time, that Romero´s Legion comes up with selfpraisment and bragging.
I do have respect for your achievement of getting Eternal, but your way of "celebrating" it is very polarizing, selfpraising and calling yourself better than others. That´s the point where my respect was gone. And to always mention your clan in such threads and connecting like this the (maybe not real, but in the texts obvious) arrogance to your clan makes your clans reputation really going bad.
If you´d maybe read one time more before you post, or just think about your words, the negativity wouldn´t come up so far.

Coz this text is just ridicolously bragging and selfpraising.
Then to mention, that this would be only a game makes it really unbeatable ironic.
Then to say, that it´s only a game is just insane.

Ceeg understands where I’m coming from here, take the frustration and anger and channel it into Clan Wars when they come along! I admit the post does seem arrogant, but never was intended for that. It takes a bigger man to admit when he is wrong, but a lesser man to attack those whom mean no harm.

You created a "clan" feature in a game....
Suggested "clan wars" were going to be coming....
And then you didnt actually give any information on what exactly will be required...
And you didnt expect toxicity?

Do you even comprehend the human race?

Until you explain what clan wars will even be like, you are going to have people ASS U ME how they think it will work. Some have decided that arena ranking and ability will play a role in clans. Others have assumed some kind of boss to work towards beating but only one clan can do it in a rotation... who knows what others think.

This is what YOU have created.

Also, a few points... Why post the "podium" of arena each week? Make a big deal about it and of course some will start to brag about it. Or, on the other hand, why isnt Gauntlet celebrated in the same way? Quite frankly I agree with the majority here... The only thing it takes to podium arena is LOTS of time. Especially in this miserable meta with moonchild draws and more bugs than I have ever seen. But Gauntlet? That takes a ton of effort, knowledge, planning... that is the real "test" IMHO.

So if you want to post pictures of the Arena podium, why not Gauntlet Podium also? Or better yet, just stop the whole thing, because... who cares?

Back to the matter at hand... BIG congrats to GC! He is a great guy as is most of the Romero's crew. And it IS an accomplishment to put in that much time to reach Eternal 1. But I think there isnt a reason to talk about it, really, and this is all on the game developers who created this animosity with shifty non-answers and vague information.


And all of you that thought this original post was humble brags or toxic or whatever... Be the better person and keep your mouth shut? Let them look like (what you perceive to be) toxic instead of proving that you are also. just.... walk away.

Players who put time and effort in getting top 3 like to be recognized for that feat. Maybe some don't, but I think it's safe to say that at least most people do.

While I strongly disagree on the supposed lack of skill needed to rank in Arena, I think you're absolutely right that Gauntlet is even moreso a test of skill, and ought to have its own podium. It takes hours of planning and tons of creativity just to reach top 10 - so reaching top 3 is quite an accomplishment. I don't see why there shouldn't be a podium for Gauntlet just like Arena - anybody who puts in the time and mental energy to tackle either and come out on top should get some recognition.

Hell, even Hitler gave Jesse Owens props when the White House wouldn't... not that I'm making a reductio ad Hitlerum argument about the development team's lack of love for Gauntlet winners... :P
