View Full Version : I'm calling it quits for an unknown time.

I think I've come to a point in going to stop playing for a while, if not permanent. I can't justify the time requirement for my devices to be tied up with this game.
It would be ok if the grind was less time to get X toon. I'd rather have actual quests to gain things. I even thought about sacrificing about 200 of my more common tons and starting over, but I can't see wasting the building time again for outdated characters.
This game is too buggy to play without freezing or whatever. So I'll rest and check back to see the new worlds....

Farewell Huck, and good luck staying away. I said the same thing around October last year. Then when I came back in mid-April to see the 'new worlds' I was not surprised to see that nothing new was added in all that time. Some new toons, talis and frontier dungeons, sure, but those don't count as new content. Last year the devs said we'd get at least Avalon this year, now they are saying next year. You may be gone a while if you'll only come back for new worlds.
That being said, enjoy your time away. It is liberating to leave the game, but it can be equally liberating to play this game for fun and not worry about the FOMO shoved in our faces. I miss out on the latest and greatest all the time, but end up getting the toons eventually. Sure, they may not be as useful by the time I get them, but at least I do. Since I don't give a rats ass about arena and gauntlet (I play just enough to get the rewards I want and the new gauntlet toon by the time the season ends) I only care about going after the achievements. Hopefully they can hold me over until Avalon and Silent Planet.
Enjoy RL. Anyone who plays this game for a while deserves a break once it starts feeling like a chore.
To bad!
But I can see the point. There really should be MISSIONS to get these new characters no 6 day or a couple weeks of grinding. I think they've completely forgotten the missions tab is even there.

I completely understand the need to take a break from things, especially when something fun turns into drudgery - it happens. I mean, why torture yourself burning through hours of gameplay for the latest 25K-fragment-character-of-the-month when it will probably show up in the frontier store within a year?
I feel that it is really about knowing what aspects of the game that you enjoy and focusing on them, and not being distracted by all the shiny new goodies they constantly hurl at us. Fun is fun, but an endless chase can lead to madness...
I hope that your time away can help you find perspective.

This. I couldn't agree more. What keeps me playing right now is all the achievements I still have yet to get. I took a good 6 month or so break shortly after awakenable characters were introduced so I have quite a back log. Once I finish these, I'm not sure there will be enough to keep me wanting to play. More missions and regular REAL content (i.e. Avalon and Silent Planet and whatever else they have plans for) will keep me coming back. The daily grind...not so much.
As Blaspheme said, focus on what's fun and not the new shiny toy and the game has better chances to stay fun. That's what I did when I came back and now I don't stress.

But long term goals don't generate FOMO and this team only seems to know how to make money off of FOMO. They're a business and we are just wallets.

That's the problem...if they made the game based around long term goals more they would still make the money they are making now. Those that buy already will still spend the money regardless of the long term goal route. They don't wanna wait that long. It's like how EA made all the characters unlock-able in Battlefront 2 by chasing long term goals, but also made them available through a pay wall. It was doable the long way, but people still spent the money to unlock them right away.
Of course, EA got an endless amount of shit for that, and rightfully so. It's a $60 game where at LOTB is free. I understand the difference between these two games, but I feel the example still applies. If LOTB made everything obtainable with long term goals as well as pay walls, they will still make their money. Those that buy all the new toons now will continue to buy them while those that don't spend money at all will chase the long term goals.
Those are my thoughts anyway. Maybe I'm wrong and if NF were to allow everything to be obtainable with long term goals they would go bankrupt.
One thing is for certain: people will complain about everything.

All solid points but the problem is the team has decided they don't even want to try long term anymore. The few things that were long term goals recently were introduced with a FOMO event first and then a delay of months.
My biggest problem with all the FOMO baiting is the content is almost always broken or when it's not they decide it is too good and nerf it to uselessness.

Agreed. That's why I don't care if I get the new toons or talis anymore. I will get them eventually. I just wanna enjoy the game without getting frustrated anymore.
Truth is I'm very close to calling it quits as well. I mean what's left to do? I've hit #1 in Gauntlet and Arena a couple times. Most achievements are done.. except the one they just added.. which just means I need to repeat a dungeon yet again 300 times to get another shitty red/yellow +15% HP cosmic talisman.... I mean the ONLY thing there for long term players is the next event and FOMO. They aren't interested at all about adding ANYTHING other than very short term $$$ stuff. The app becomes a quest for the next PURCHASE... not the next level. I've honestly been playing this apps "bigger brother" - Raid Shadow Legends - more lately.... at least there I FEEL like I'm actually progressing rather than waiting to see what the next purchase event is.

Damn...if I had all that completed I would have quit a long time ago. I'd hate to see another long term player leave, but it might be good to take an extended break. I've done it twice myself. When I've come back, even without new worlds or content, at least I have a lot of achievements to chase and new toons to acquire. I know, doesn't sound like much fun, but it works for me. I don't play any other mobile game. When I quit prior to Night City I only came back when I got an email announcing it's release. After I beat it, I quit again. I only came back because I wanted something else to do than read about Covid all day. I still have enough to keep me occupied for a while, I think. Maybe not until Avalon...these month long events are giving me a reason to go after the old achievements. Once I get them all I'll be in the same boat as you, Yup; aside from being #1 in arena and gauntlet, but I literally don't care about those aspects of the game enough to want to try.

This will be my second time taking a break. I don't see how done players who have been playing longer than me are still in it, side from the collection aspect. I started just before the first anniversary and have enjoyed the game and grated seeing it go downhill from where it was in the beginning. I still love my collection, but the new stuff is just not innovative or new. It's only rehashed characters that already exist. I only started writing to awaken characters and don't really feel it's worth it. Looks I said before, the arena and gauntlet are the only places where you can really play the game. Putting your phone on auto and setting it down to run is not playing. It's also no longer enjoyable to me. I'm going to stick around in the forum and discord to see the changes. I'll them decide if and when I'll come back to play more than extremely passively.

Fair decision, Huck. Every time I quit and came back, it felt fun again, if not entirely new. The devs just need to understand that regular NEW content is what will keep new players. Toons and talismans and frontier dungeons do not count as new content. They can keep releasing all those too, but give us worlds at regular intervals.
Also...whatever happened to adding insanity difficulty to the older worlds? I thought they said they were gonna do that. That'd open the door to more missions, plus get us to play the older worlds more often aside from boss runs.

Over the years I've learned the developers say a lot and do very little. The bugs have only gotten worse and nothing has been done to resolve them. Just released new shiny toons and a smoke and mirror act and problem solved. Only those who are new and don't understand fall for the spin.
Quite honestly, Candy Crush offers more sense of "achievement" than this app does.

Plus they make all their money without FOMO baiting and they get rid of most of their bugs before the new content goes live.

The game has been pretty stale as of late, yes.
Sure, there are new dungeons and characters, but it's all more of the same.
I wonder if we're gonna see some truly new stuff in the form of game modes at some point.

I believe Silent Planet is supposed to offer a new game mode, but they have been awfully silent about it. Plus, based on their last SOTN, it won't release until next year so it'll be a while.
Character fusions!!!!!!!
Make those duplicate drops actually WORTH something.
Combine 2 or more identical characters to boost the abilities of one character.. basically allow duplicate characters to be used in the same manner as Skill Shards or final awakening objects...
------------------
Examples....
I have 2 Gunner Pumpkins with no skill shards applied to either.... I can fuse them to be left with 1 Gunner Pumpkin with 1 skill shard applied.
I could move from 5 purple stars on Navigator Ed to 5 red stars if I have 6 duplicate Navigator Eds to fuse (total 7 Navigators). But maybe drop it back down to 3 rather than the increased 6 objects.
------------------
Leave the existing routes in place, just add a new route.. this then adds a "quest for duplicates" factor to the app.
You could be stingy with it by adding fuse tokens required if you wish to fuse duplicates.
--------------------------------------------------
Gauntlet.. Let me "sweep" lower levels... If I've repeatedly beat Gauntlet F, E, D, C, B, A, AA, AAA, etc. without a single loss in 2 or 3 seasons.... let me merely sweep the battles and not have to sit through them. Just skip the actual battles. It's such a time waster to repeatedly have to go through these stages when they are mindless and never a challenge.

These all sound interesting but I really think you're postulating outside of our developers skill set. Let's wait for them to learn how to program what's already in the game before we give them new mechanics to screw up.
They don't care about bugs.. so why not add stuff to keep players interested? new features gain users and $$$.. bug fixes don't.
I learned LONG ago that the devs won't address any bug directly unless it alters their revenue stream. If it doesn't, suck it up and deal with it because they'll ignore it or just flat out deny it exists in the face of all evidence... or excuse it, a la "streaky ai" (RNG should NOT be "streaky")
