At level 1-4 it misleading appears like talisman subtypes are pretty evenly balanced and you get to pick def vs m.def.
However, at level 5 there is a pretty big stat difference between subtypes.

Consider these strength and health talismans. There is almost a 50% increase in the relevant stats, (451 atk to 696 atk) or (4527hp to 6977hp)
It seems like the game is skewing stats where one point in M.Def and Magic is worth several Hp / Atk / Def points.

Strength Talisman
Safeguard:
Hp - 1142
Atk - 451
M. Resist - 114

Fierce:
Hp - 1632
Atk - 696
Def - 163

Health Talisman
Ward:
Hp - 4527
Magic - 114
M. Resist - 114

Overwhelming:
Hp - 6977
Atk - 163
Def - 163

Yes, for some reason Magic and Magic defense don't reach as high as physical damage and defense. Not sure why, but maybe some of the stronger moves do magic damage?

I think it's based on the subtype though. Like Ward, Safeguard, Fierce, etc. Have you compared similar subtypes between talismans to see if they are consistent?

Not sure what you mean here. But, within each talisman category (guardian / paladin / etc.) there is generally an optimal subtype when you're trying to maximize a particular stat.
In the case of health talismans, using 6 overwhelming subtype health talismans nets 14,000+ more hp vs using other subtypes (which is basically equivalent to three additional non-overwhelming subtype health talisman health bonus).

They should have the maximums in the description. I understand that every talysman prioritizes one stat, but sometimes one has Attack as main stat and ends up having less attack than the other. The red +15% damage talysmans are the proof.
