I need help understanding scaling damage

For example, if I have a character that does Magic damage, but says that "damage increases based on Max Xp", will adding talismans for magic have any affect at all, or is it strictly Max Xp only that increases damage?

Damage would be increased from your base magic stats being multiplied by health stats. So yes, both magic and high HP would be most beneficial.
