Just played the Evo Material Horde skull quest and in the second wave something weird happened. I came in with Soldier Eddie and The Nomad from my own roster and an Assassin Golden Son from my troopers. The AGS was equipped with a Strike talisman set and a Void set. No extra Eddies on the bench.

I did my first move with Soldier Eddie, just his basic AoE attack. Then the AGS attacked on his own, as if doing a counter although I hadn't been attacked. Didn't look closely so I'm not sure if the "counter"-text popped up or not. When he was done, I could still use him for that turn.

Extra details:
All characters at 5* lvl 100 with all talismans at 5* lvl 50
AGS - fully skill sharded and stats that would match up with having one each of fierce, safeguard and skilled on the Strike set and all shield on the Void set.
Nomad - fully skill sharded with one Assassin set (2 barrier, 1 shield), one Strength set (1 fierce, 1 safeguard) and a single Blind overwhelming
Soldier Eddie - one skill shard each on War-Torn and Acrid Smoke with one Guardian safeguard set, one Strength fierce set and one Boost will set

It kept the counter from the first wave, happens all the time, one of the hundreds of bugs.

Sounds very plausible! I think the last enemy in the first wave killed itself by attacking my void shield.
