Sacrifice January 2021 - Sacrifice for Ed Hunter and MORE!

Sacrifice events are changing for 2021! Instead of just 1 week of rewards, Sacrifice events will be continuously ongoing with a rotating selection of rewards each month!

Permanent Addition! Every time you Sacrifice from now on, the following bonus reward will be added:

• Tier I sacrifices: 2 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier II sacrifices: 6 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier III sacrifices: 20 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier IV sacrifices: 60 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier V sacrifices: 150 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier VI sacrifices: 250 Sacrifice Currency
• Tier VII sacrifice: 500 Sacrifice Currency
• Vortexes: 750 Sacrifice Currency

Sacrifice Currency NEVER expires and will NEVER convert. This permanent currency can be traded in the Rewards Store for rare rewards.

The Sacrifice Tab in the Rewards Store will feature permanent items that you can trade Sacrifice Currency for, such as Talisman Upgrade packs, and Ironite.

There will also be new limited time items that will be available for 1 month at a time.

The Sacrifice event for January 2021 features the incredibly rare ED HUNTER and a series of packs that contain Magus Awakening Materials! These packs will give you the opportunity to get Magus Awakening Materials for every star tier to help fully Awaken one of your Magus characters!

Ed Hunter blasts from the past stealing effects and applying his own!

This 3⭐ Sentinel:

• Steals Golden Effects while blocking enemies from gaining them.
• Grants Echo so he can Inflict Perfect Corruption, Fear, and Seal for devastating effect!
• Let allies die and then revive them to maximize Ed Hunters potential.

Trade Sacrifice Currency in the Rewards Store for these limited time items from December 31st at 4pm PT to February 3rd at 4pm PT.

After February 3rd the limited time items available in store will be changed! If you are unable to earn Ed Hunter during this month, then we have you covered! This character will become available through our Achievement system later this year!

I like this event.

I do see some potential here.

Sac currency becoming a permanent fixture should lead to less hoarding which should in turn lead to less complaints about inventory issues (still a problem but now we won't be trying to time our going over with the sac event).

However, 100K currency for any toon feels way too much. Especially one that I have used maybe 10 times since I bought it. My advice to everyone else, wait for those achievements later this year.

WTG.....launch the new year with 2 events that adds to the instability.. when will you learn that your shitty servers cant handle one event let alone 2 and one of them is a clan event

I like the changes to the sacrifice event. I will miss the "hoard my souls and turn them all in at once" aspect a little bit, but I suppose nothing is stopping me from doing that anyway. And, any negative there is more than offset by not feeling like I can't sac all these extras I got out of christmas souls (etc) since it's not a sac event. Definitely a net positive.

However, I'm going to ask you to reconsider your pricing scheme. Icy Eddie was a 5 star, fairly unique character who cost 30,000 currency, and that felt like too much. Ed Hunter is a 3 star, not very unique character, and he costs 100,000 equivalent currency. Over 3x as much???? 10,000 would feel reasonable. 100,000 is not.

You need to add Sacrifice Currency to the new tab in the store - Rewards->Sacrifice. It's useless in the Events tab.

I had to scroll 12 times again and again just to buy the Festive Aw. Shards in the Event store. It gets back to the beginning, really annoying.
I may stop playing the game because of that (?) lol

I've been thinking about the sacrifice changes. While the 100,000 for Ed Hunter is outrageous, I understand that letting us build currency over the course of multiple months allows them to make things more expensive. But that sets up a huge potential for frustration. What happens if I save up and buy one month's character only to find out the next month's one is something I want more?

The solution is the same as the one you're using for the heroic rotations. You've been telling us who's coming in the next two rotations so that we can plan accordingly on how many heroic souls to spend. I'm not spending any this time because I really want Ragnar next time, etc.

I feel that you should do something similar with the Sacrifice rotation. Let us know who the major character is coming in the next two months so that
1) we can decide whether to spend or save our coins and
2) worst case, we have two months to save up when we learn that a great new character is coming.

I think you should do this regardless, but I'll suggest again that 100,000 for Ed Hunter is terrifying. It makes me think, "What are they going to charge for a really good character? 1M?" If he were 10,000 instead of 100,000, I think a lot of us would be less concerned about this.

The 100k is an issue, but it is trivial.

As it stands, you no longer have additional rewards from sacrifice.

Even worse, you no longer have any reason to do an ultimate sacrifice.

Basic math show all sacrifices above double 9k are just a waste of currency.

Another really well thought game design piece....

So, there'll be no more sacrifice events ? So you can just get rid of duplicate or unwanted characters whenever ?

Ultimates never made sense from a currency perspective, but they do have better rewards. That said, I only ever did them for the challenge. A little bummed that there aren't sacrifice challenges anymore. I suppose you could make month long ones, though.

I'm in three minds about the change:
1) Great that I no longer should have to think that hoarding is the only way to go.
2) When are they going to drop 5 ultimate sacrifices into a new event as a challenge so most people can't obtain something else after they've got rid of their frags & souls.
3) 100k is too much & there's no point bothering... so I'll hoard instead.

It looks like there won’t be any sac event challenges, since it’s change from an event to a more standard mode of play. I liked the past events/stretch goals. Easy and good rewards. The new version seems to reward those who horde the new frags, as well as quick awoken materials for those still working on upgrades.

Hmmm.. have Vortexes become more difficult now? I'm sure I used to get them every 2-3 Exalted (VI) sacrifices but it's only 4 Exalted Sacs now.

I really like the Idea of continuing Sac situation, that kinda fixs the overflowing BoS/Toon slot situation. The Store is good enough to spend currency there and there is no rush in doing sac as you have the whole month and the continuity in currency. It feels a step in the correct direction, good!!!

Now about the main toon, first impression..., it does look really expensive, even for a month of saccing... lets see it again in I dunno 20 days... For sure you will keep updating values as long as it's needed.

About the motivation for higher value Saccing.. we could have some new rewards for the highest values. Like the new cosmic upgrading materials or something to make it worth perform those high-value sacs.

An yes, please add the currency in the Sac TAB so we can see how much we have and what we can buy at the moment.

Genuinely, what do you expect to be said?

I understand the frustration with toons like the Happy Holibeast, the server issues, all of it. I get it. But everyone here is just flaming the devs, constantly. Not just here, but also on Facebook and other forms of social media. What answer would soothe the player base, in your opinion?

This sacrifice event answers a lot of the previous feedback people have given, like how we have to hold onto resources indefinitely for sacrifice events to come, causing our inventories to overflow. Now, you can just dump everything. Plus, if you don't get Ed Hunter, it literally says you can get him in a future dungeon.

I understand that there is frustration towards the decisions made recently with events; hell, I'm not a happy camper with the method they used for us obtaining both Dark Advent Lilith and the Happy Holibeast. Getting pissy with devs, though, will not get you anywhere. People are quitting the game, and I understand why, but you still shouldn't be coming at the developers because you couldn't get a toon you want. It's a free game, and you can get pretty far without paying any money towards it. I don't even remember the last time I purchased Ironite, and I've been able to keep up pretty well.

Be civil, and maybe the devs will be more likely to have a conversation with players.

I remember it taking less to get a vortex when I was lower level. Is it possible that you levelled up in the intervening time? At level 100, it's about 4 and a half Exhalteds for me.

For what it's worth, I set up a quick table with sac points vs. rewards, and it's pretty clear that the sweet spots have changed a lot:

So as you can see, the worst sacrifice is really right at the Tier 6 mark, 20k Sac points yielding 250 Reward currency when 18k Sac points yield 300 Reward currency.

The ability to strengthen and develop toons in the circle of sacrifice would be awesome

I agree with Scimitar. I'd also really like the ability to lock them from the sacrifice screen. Frequently I get to that screen and see a character that I don't want to ever sac, but who I forgot to lock. Would like to do it then and there.

Thanks for the lecture, but in reality, what is expected is just :
"We heard you, we'll try to do better"

You can reread all of my posts, I am the civil one. People are just getting tired of the "we never do nothing wrong" attitude. I'm glad you now save your real money now that you can consistently keep up with the event pressure, I am there too, but a lot of players are not and I'm just trying to avoid a situation where the company believes things are fine, when they are not.

If we all follow your advice, then the Dev team never has any feedback except from fanboys, and that's how you lose contact with your player base.

In all honesty, I'm with them, I'm a Dev myself, and feedback, good or bad is always an asset to improve on our work.

What we have here, is marketing handling customer feedback, and the hate you mention comes precisely from that fact.

Now that it's been two weeks with this new sacrifice rules, what's your take on it ? Sure it helped on inventory issues, but I stand with my first impression, they just completely removed the sacrifice events and their associated rewards. I guess you could call that an improvement, because when you're not expecting anything, getting less things doesn't matter...

As usual expectations are what makes people unhappy, but most of those expectations are related either with the low quality of release, or hyped up marketing, so to me the company is just not delivering on its promises.

We were promised better reception of player feedback, and what we get is polls on old content distribution...

Don't know about you but I understand why people are disappointed, I'm just voicing it in a way that makes it not trivial.

Some said that from now on there is no need to hoard souls anymore and wait for the sac event. But what about the book of soul events? Does it make sense to still hoard souls and wait for the book of soul events now? Then you can get the sac currency and finish book of soul achievements in one move. Or will there also be no book of soul events any more? Any thoughts?

Good question. I don’t see a sac or book of souls event for January. I’m going to assume those will be eliminated. Hoarding is still going to happen in any case. Takes like 10million gold to open 99 epic souls, so those like myself in a gold drought will have to sac as needed/possible.

Book of Souls event can be completed through opening Talisman Souls, particulary saving your Mythicals Talisman Souls might help a lot. The best improvement we need there is eliminating that absolutely out of place warning "are you sure you want to sell this item?" from the five stars skulls... they only purpose is to be sold.

But still, we dont know how often BoS are, or if we see them again in the future. A few words about that from Devs could help.

Book of souls is not monthly event. And the most valuable souls for this event are talisman souls and common mythic souls.
So you don't need to keep rare or epic souls (exactly these souls were a problem because we kept them for sacrifice event) and can burn them in anytime.

It's very simple and good decision.
What about rewards for sacrifice challenges? They always sucks and we liked sacrifice event due to a new items in a store and drop for a burning characters.

Yeah, I've been hoarding Mythicals for the next Book of Souls event, but burning rares and epics in an everlasting quest to get more Crusaders and Red Allied Soldiers... (Can you tell I'm in a clan? :-) )

However, we have now scheduled a client release for this same day. In light of this, we've now made it so these store items will expire on February 3rd at 4pm PT!

As we are drawing closer, will these items actually expire at 4pm PT on february 3rd, or are they still expiring at 4pm local device time?

With about 6000 sac fragments, if you are like me, there is no way that you will manage to get ed hunter with the fragments. On the other hand, they said that there would be another way to earn him.
At this point in my lotb career, I have collected all characters that you can obtain from regular souls, even mythical. I still am missing a few that are holiday characters. I'm also missing a few that you grind dungeons for, and a couple that haven't entered heroics yet such as Vespa. Finally, I get characters from new events. I'm looking forward to new content when Avalon comes out.
