You don't necessarily have to quit the game, my strategy is to enter the "Lord of the Flies" and simply turn the "auto" off there. It's a very quick battle (definitely faster than reloading the game)...

On madness, the level before the "Lord of the Flies" (don't remember the exact name, quite possibly "Words of Warning") gives more gold per SoT (around 21k as a reward + 5,5k for completion). ...

I remember seeing 200/300 Talisman Epic Soul fragments, 35 ironite and something else (had it not been common, I would remember it). Either way, Insanity didn't give any event souls or talis.
