And the gain when sacrificing?
It don't seem to be huge when leveling them, no?
Better to wait for natural 5* ?

I'm currently leveling a heart but AFAIK natural 5* should provide 6K of essences.
A natural 1* that leveled to 3* maximized provide 1,2K.
Let's see.

Well I have an excel spreadsheet tracking my progress in the game and I'm currently at:

Skill shards invested: 133
Skill shards still needed: 1,423

to shard all characters.

Sooooooooooooooooo in case I get all trooper badges daily (which I won't) plus 2 shards from arena weekly (1 for top 25 & 1 from store) I only need 89 weeks to finish the project. Roughly the same for you bud I guess

with the new sq you can assume 1 skillshard per week from them and one per month from the monthly rewards
but yeah world domination might be faster

I got 4 skill shards so far on my alt account with 5/8 SQ unlocked, while my main remains with 0 xD

As u can tell I was bored but glad I checked. Hate to c Nicko,Jofer,etc. numbers!!! Those 2 prolly can't add that high anyways, lmfao!!!
