True damage
Both magic and attack stats provide your base damage while ignoring the enemy defence and resistance
Physical damage
This is your attack stat
For example, warrior Lilith uses physical damage. Most players I assume would suit her up with red talismans as they provide strictly attack stat for damage.
Assassin Raven Witch uses true damage so any talisman that provides magic, physical or both work with her but may not be as effective on warrior Lilith.

this helped me out a lot. Some of the names for the older talismans changed.
Do you mean an attacker who has both true AND physical damage abilities, or 2 different toons of either type ?
Anyway, if your objective is to maximize (expected) damage output (ignoring buffs/debuffs, synergies and enemy resistances)
physical damager:
maximize physical damage
magic damager:
maximize magic damage
true damager:
maximize the sum of physical and magic damage
random damager:
maximize the sum of physical and magic damage
(true OR random damager) AND physical damager:
maximize physical damage
(true OR random damager) AND magic damager:
maximize magic damage
For true damage both the physical and magic stat are combined to deal damage. Let's assume it's equally weighted.
For random damage, one of either physical, magic or true damage is selected as damage type. Let's assume chances for each type are equal.
hope this helps
