I've got a set of those and a set of MR piercing too. Haven't used them enough to judge their effectiveness yet.

I'm pretty sure it's another broken mechanic, ignoring the DEF value is on my special for samurai Eddie, and that part doesn't appear to be functioning. In addition, I tried out and levelled the ignore MR talismans and they don't appear to work either. Use/level at own risk.
