It seems like it has to start at the next weekly reset. I think they have all run the entire week.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I have high hopes for this one. The event name is intriguing and ambitious-sounding. We just recently had a Tier-style Arena event, so I'm thinking this one will be fragment drop based. Perhaps Maker Soul fragment drops for every win, with bonus drops given for every magus character you used in the battle? Optimistic, I know, but I've been hoping to see something like this for a long time. (And, it could explain the timing of the recent magus Eddie buffs.)

If the event starts at the next reset, that's the same date when the Maker Souls event will end. So I don't think Maker Souls would be a part of any rewards.

For example, previous event was Xmas Souls, 3 Kings Have Arrived, which lasted until Jan 1st. The arena event lasted until Dec 30th which was in the same timeline of the main "Souls" event.

But I also would like if Maker souls were also available though arena wins. (Since I'm out of Ironite, and Toons for sacs).

I wouldn't be surprised if they put those maker souls in as a reward along with another "exclusive" character. One thing I dislike about the arena events these days is that only wins count, which gets difficult once you get into the top 50. Last months event was what killed my fun for a while.
